Boylston Chess Club updates

Dear Chess Friends,

Hopefully everyone has been staying busy and healthy through this pandemic.
I wanted to share a few updates with everyone about the Boylston Chess Club.  We will remain closed at least through the end of May.  We will have further updates after we see how the gradual reopening of Massachusetts is progressing.

We are pleased to announce several online chess events in order to keep those chess skills honed.  GM Larry Christiansen has been hosting weekly lectures on twitch at https://www.twitch.tv/larrychr.  Tune in for the virtual chat and tactics study or catch up on past broadcasts.

Starting next week, there will also be a one-game per week Swiss tournament.  The time control will hopefully encourage more thought than the bullet and blitz games I'm sure we have all been playing.

Finally, stay tuned for more information about rapid events hosted on chess.com over the upcoming weekends.

Since the club has been closed for a couple of months now, the Board of Directors has decided to extend club memberships for all current members.  Once we know when we can start hosting over the board tournaments again, we will send more information about the extensions.

In the meantime, hope to see you all online, and we all hope that you and your families are safe.

On behalf of the BCF Board of Directors,
Andrew Hoy

Combat Covid-19 Online Scholastic

So one of my coaches Kishore Mosaliganti had this fantastic idea
His idea is to have a scholastic fundraiser for CDC combats COVID-19 relief fund. Where we have  kids from our Academy get involved and actually organize this event.
(Yi Wang just did something similar and had over 100 participants.)

Here is link to it on Maca website:

At least we are still all connected thru the internet.

Cancelling events due to Coronavirus

Dear Chess Friends,

As Coronavirus Disease continues to spread, and as Massachusetts has declared a state of emergency, the BCF Board of Directors has met and decided unanimously to suspend operations. All tournaments and events for the remainder of March have been cancelled.

To be sure, there have been no reports that anyone affiliated with the club, or who has visited the club, has been infected or exposed to coronavirus. The decision to close the club is purely precautionary.

The Board of Directors will meet in early April to reevaluate in light of prevailing conditions at the time, and will decide and communicate its findings by way of update.

Anyone who has pre-registered for upcoming events or events in progress (i.e., the Thursday Night Swiss) will receive a full refund; separate emails will be sent with further details to registrants on an event-by-event basis.

We thank you all for your participation in the club. Trying times like these help put into perspective what an amazing community we have. I know we all look forward to getting through this challenge; and until then, see you online!
