GM LARRY CHRISTIANSEN SIMUL BRINGS IN THE CROWDS TO SOUTH STATION, JUNE 18TH EVENT

Former US Chess Champion and World Cup 2013 Qualifier GM Larry Christiansen brought a really big crowd of spectators for his "2nd Tuesday" Simul at South Station. 

(This event, as noted, does not always take place on the 2nd Tuesday but it does take place on Tuesday!)

of the Boylston Chess Club. The rains fell, yet, (or maybe because of them)

Larry had a full house, playing and watching the display of

his chess prowess. The great thing about Larry is that he is a very kind person, 

very friendly; but he is also very accurate and creative in refuting your mistakes 

and innacuracies.  The impressive point is not only does his chess position

dominate the board, but he is lightening fast to boot!

Invitational Championship - U10 Section

Carissa Yip, Massachusetts' top 9 year old player, wins a nerve-racking 

internet game with little time on the clock.

Carissa in the midst of her last round game on-line, in the tournament room

of the Boylston Chess Club, Somerville, MA.  The pressure is intense!

Carissa, poised and focused, thinks through her strategy.

The chess clock is ticking . . . 

A draw wound not be sufficient: tie-breaks not in her favor...

The usually tactical opponent has been eager to simplify with white...

hoping to reach that forced drawn position . . .

Carissa's back is to the wall . . .

Then, there was a change in the evaluation of the position, 

from relatively equal to . . . well it seems that Carissa's 

opponent made a series of moves which Carissa could use 

to improve her own situation on the board.  Carissa provoked a weakness;

and then another. And then, bingo! She won.  An incredible turn of events.

And a remarkable accomplishment by this 9 yr old.

Lauretti and Wu scored 2.5 points to finish 2-3rd in U1950 section

U1650 SECTION:

Stephen Savage plays black vs Mark Neale: draw.

Neale won the U1650 section with 3.5 points. Savage was 2-3rd.

Sandeep Shankar plays black vs Sammi Pan in Round 1.

Sandeep scored 2.5 points to share 2-3rd in U1650 section.

SammiPan not only plays chess, but is fast becoming an

accomplished chess photographer.

Sammi Pan plays Natasha Christiansen in a "side game."

Sammi had a full-point bye in Round 1. And Natasha was

kind enough to give Sammi a chess work-out in Round 2.

Brandon Wu has two points out of two in the BCC Weaver Adams Tourney.

Not only does Brandon have a creative opening repertoire, but he also

has a strong sense of the endgame, far beyond his young 9 year old mind.
