Shankland was paired with GM Kramnik
in Round 13 [last round] of the
Super GM Tata Steel event 2018-2019
"Masters" section.
Kramnik had the white pieces
I was hoping for "at least" a draw.
Shankland was hurting from
his loss to Giri, (which was a drawn
position), from the previous round.
I was delighted to see the following
game. After going over this
game several times
with my chess comrades
I realized that we had
a masterpiece on our hands
with the black pieces.
What do you think?
Note that Shankland essayed a sacrifice of a bishop
to get connected passers on the queen-side
and offered an exchange sacrifice at the end
of the game which Kramnik could not accept.
This game is truly instructive for people
playing the black pieces, on how
to win with black.
Bravo GM Samuel Shankland!!
