DaVinci and chess-- A mystery

Check out this article in the New York Times about an old chess book, an old friendship, and speculation that DaVinci drew some chess diagrams. Or at least some people are fancifully imagining that he did.

I don't know. Compare these pictures to The Last Supper or the Mona Lisa. The lines aren't even straight!
