GAME OF THE YEAR
BCC LEGENDS OF CHESS FEBRUARY 21, 2015, R=4
POSTURE IS KEY
NM Chris Williams played 9.g5 . . . prompting Nfd7; now
Chris is thinking about playing "f4"; Carissa looks ready!
Objectively, the position was equal through move 16.
The tenor of the game was spirited, both sides playing boldly.
Though by move 17. . . . Qxg5, Carissa had "stuff" especially
because of Chris's uncastled king, still in the center of the board.
Maybe the final chance for Chris to "save things" was choosing
to play 20.Qe2!? rather than what he played (20.Qd2 . . . )
What do you think?
Carissa displayed some very impressive endgame technique to put this game
in the win column for the black pieces. Very well played, Carissa!
[After this BCC Legends event (February 21, 2015), in which Carissa tied for
1st place, attaining a +41 to 2191 rating, she completed her participation in the BCC
Thursday Night Swiss in which she scored 2/4 for a +3 to 2194 rating (February 26, 2015).
Finally, on February 28, 2015 Carissa closed out her play in the Billerica CC February
Swiss, in which she scored 2.5 points out of 3 with a rating increase of +9 to to 2203.
This gave Carissa the clear distinction of becoming the youngest female player
in USCF history to become a master! Brava, bravissimo, Carissa!]
