Strange Attraction

Dan claims he doesn't like chess, yet he seems drawn to it (like a moth to a flame?):
...after breakfast I watched a chess game for a bit. I've never really liked it. It's too cold and calculated, mere strategy. The unbegun game itself is fascinating. Order, and so many possibilities. After the pieces start to move, the paths narrow, choices dwindle, and you are eventually consigned to a certain fate. It's like picturebooks packed away irretrievably as you move on. It's kind of sad. Or at least that's how it always strikes me. I wonder why I always end up friends with the chess players then.
