BCC 4SS LEGENDS OF CHESS
PREMIER SECTION
BCC Champion NM Lawyer Times
3 points good for 1-2nd place.
NM Eric Godin vs NM Hal Terrie, Round 2.
Eric scored 3 points to share 1-2nd place with Lawyer Times.
Nithin Kavi scored 2.5 points to
come in clear 3rd.
One gets better at chess by increments,
a little bit at a time, day after day,
week after week.
Keep your eye on this young man
in next Sunday's MACA
Scholastics Qualifiers. . .
Brandon Wu (right) is back. Welcome Brandon! Here he faces off
with Nithin Kavi in Round 3. (background): Jerry Williams,
black, vs Natasha Christiansen.
Terrie-Kavi endgame. Can you figure it out? Black to move.
U1800 SECTION
Lucy Cai, 9 yrs old. A strong, silent chess force.
Lucy topped the list on tie-breaks for 1-6th place,
with 2.5/3. Her rating now stand at 1604.

Ray Behenna plays black vs Steve Stepak, Round 2.
(background): Suraj Ramanathan vs Seyhmus Yuksekkaya.
Ray and Steve scored 2.5 points to share 1-6th place.
Michael Yu plays black vs 6 yr old Derek Jin, Round 1: draw.
Michael tied 1-6th place and Derek went +25 rating points to 1235.
Sadly, Derek was stuck in Brookline due to the traffic
re-routing and bridge closure for the Head of the Charles Regatta
crew race, on the Charles River and had to forfeit his Round 3
game with Ray Behenna. Let's hope for a rematch next week.
Also, it is a good chance that Derek will win the
"8 and under" section of MACA scholastics qualifiers
next Sunday. Let's hope! Derek is very poised and focused
at the board, a remarkable quality for a 6 yr old.
YOUNG AND OLD
9 yr old Suraj Ramanathan plays the black pieces vs veteran
chess player Richard Kahn in Round 1: draw. They both scored
2.5 points to share 1-6th in the U1800 section.
THE WONDER OF ENDGAMES
Matthew Manzo makes his plan in this
bishop of opposite color endgame.
Michael Yu observes.
There were 21 players in this event.
Thanks to Bernardo Iglesias who
did a great job as TD
