BCC OCTOBER GRAND PRIX // A JOYOUS OCCASION // FULL REPORT // YOUTHFUL CHESS // ELECTRIFYING

OPEN SECTION
A PICTURE PERFECT DAY
NM Siddarth Arun scores 4-0 to clinch October GP
in the Open Section.
Expert Yang Dai scored 3 points to take
clear 2nd in the Open Section.
Yang is a math major studying at MIT.
This is her first tournament at the BCC.

Eric finished with 2.5/3 to share 3-5th place.
Eddie Wei vs Carissa Yip, Round 1.
Carissa scored 2.5 points to share 3-5th place.
A special bravo to Eddie Wei who played in the
Greater Boston Open last Sunday and shared 1-2nd 
place in the U1900 Section. 7 yr old Eddie now
sports a 1755 rating from his 3.5/4 performance.
Will Ravn vs Aidan Sowa, Round 4.
Will finished with 2.5 points to share 3-5th place.
U1800 SECTION

Steve Stepak plays a poised 6 yr old Aaron Huang, Round 1.
Stepak won the U1800 section with 3.5 points.
Aaron has been playing in the BCC Sunday Scholastics;
this is his first appearance in the major leagues:

[Aaron boosted his rating from 529 to 692, a +163 jump.

6 yr old Derek Jin faces off with a determined Sandeep Shankar
in Round 1. Sandeep scored 3 points to take clear 2nd place.
Will Wisdom (right) faces off with Mark O'Brien.
Will scored 2.5 points to share 3-5th place.
Ray Behenna plays black vs Richard Kahn, Round 2: draw!
Ray scored 2.5 points to share 3-5th place.

David currently leads in the GP Standings for the U1600 Section.
Two talented juniors face off: Sandeep Shankar vs Michael Yu, Round 2.
A special bravo to Michael Yu who played in the 
Greater Boston Open last Sunday and shared 1-2nd place
in the U1600 Section with 3.5/4 points.
[It shall be duly noted that former BCC President
IM David Vigorito and New England Nor'Easter/BCC based team
 star [US Chess League] FM Steven Winer shared 1-2nd place
in the Greater Boston Open 2013 "Open" Section, last Sunday.
It is also worth mentioning that the NE Nor'Easters remain
in 1st place in the Eastern Conference, Northeast Division!

WHAT KIDS DO DURING THE LUNCH BREAK!
WHY THEY PLAY VIDEO GAMES!
Veteran BCC player Expert Arthur Nugent plays in the
Grand Prix. Arthur broke even with 2/4. I've known
Arthur for over 30 years at the BCC. He's a staunch supporter
of chess.

9 yr old Carissa Yip faces off with 20 yr old Yang Dai, Round 2.
ENDGAME TIME
Yang Dai, on the move playing Carissa Yip.
[I was told that Yang was a pawn down in an intricate
position. Her endgame technique is splendid. 
Carissa was rock-solid under stress.
When I noticed that Yang had called Carissa's flag,
there were 33 seconds on Yang's clock.
A truly masterful chess game by 2 of the top 
females active in chess in New England today.]
